The two protocols have many similarities but there are some important differences. These differences merit consideration in order to help manufacturers seeking to validate devices for acceptance both in Europe and in ‘the USA. One of the objectives of the working group of the European Society of Hypertension is to consider the possibility of having a common protocol, which would be accepted as the international standard for the validation of blood-pressure-measuring devices [S]. Such a protocol would be welcomed by manufacturers and by those involved in performing validation procedures. Representatives of the AAMI and BHS have met on a number of occasions to exchange views on the feasibility of producing a common protocol and both organizations are committed to producing a common simplified protocol.

It was with interest that we read the recent article concerning the ‘International Protocol’Fa newly proposed protocol for the validation of automated blood pressure measuring devices [1]. The objective of this new protocol was to simplify the most widely used protocols currently available, namely the British Hypertension Society (BHS) protocol 1993 and the protocol of the Association for the A...

OBJECTIVES To clinically evaluate an inflation-based algorithm incorporated into a new automated blood pressure monitor manufactured by Welch Allyn, Inc. METHODS Device evaluation was performed according to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation standard. An overabundance of patients with hypertension (32) were part of the 110 total participants. The data were also ana...

BACKGROUND Automatic blood pressure monitoring conducted at home is increasingly used in the diagnosis and management of hypertension. We assessed the adequacy of existing British Hypertension Society (BHS) and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) validation standards for automatic blood pressure monitoring devices. SUBJECT AND METHODS A theoretical study and an e...
متن کاملState of the market. A review of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring devices.
The introduction of 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure measurement into clinical practice created a large market for ambulatory blood pressure measurement devices. Forty-three such devices from 31 manufacturers or suppliers are now available to satisfy a market demand that is likely to increase. The aim of this article is to identify the devices available and then to examine critically any valid...
